Movement 4 / 13 · 32 counts · 胸を反らす運動
Chest Opening
Open the chest, lift the gaze, breathe wider.
Raise your arms, then draw them open and back as your chest lifts toward the sky.
How to do it
- Raise both arms forward to shoulder height, palms facing in.
- Open the arms wide and back, squeezing gently between the shoulder blades.
- Lift the breastbone and let your gaze rise slightly.
- Return to the front and repeat with the counts.
Breathing: Inhale as the chest opens, exhale as the arms return.
What it does
- Counteracts hunched sitting posture by strengthening the upper back.
- Expands the ribcage, making the deep-breathing finale more effective.
Common mistakes
- Bending from the lower back instead of lifting the chest.
- Throwing the head back — the neck follows the chest, it doesn't lead.
Questions
How far back should my arms go?
Only as far as feels like a pleasant stretch across the chest. The squeeze between the shoulder blades is the goal, not the distance.
Is this safe with back pain?
Keep the motion small and lift the chest rather than arching the spine. If pain persists, consult a professional before continuing.
Radio Taiso is gentle, but it is still exercise. If you have a medical condition, an injury, or any doubt, check with a health professional before starting.
